What is Carbon Index?
Today, more than ever before, it is important to minimise carbon footprints - both on an individuals and corporate level. 2008 is going to be the year that companies set out their stalls in response to the Stern report and public demand on how they are going to deal with their carbon footprint. Many companies want to play an active part in reducing their carbon footprint but need help in tackling the issue.
Pro Enviro have developed a Carbon Index specifically designed with SMEs in mind. The Carbon Index is calculated by collating information on a range of the resources used by a company and normalising carbon emission against Gross Value Added.
From this data a visual indicator of your company’s carbon index is produced. In the example shown, the baseline year used was 2005. The 2006 carbon index shows that the carbon emissions have reduced to 91% of the 2005 figure. The 2007 index shows a further reduction to 72% of the baseline.
A Carbon Index allows you to demonstrate a strong commitment to improving resource efficiency by reducing your company’s Carbon Footprint. This will have both short-term cost saving benefits and mid- to long-term benefits through raising the profile of your company.
